Chapter 13 is often referred to as the "wage earner" or "personal reorganization" bankruptcy. In a Chapter 13 filing, the debtor submits a plan to the bankruptcy court to pay debts over a three to five year period. At the conclusion of the plan, most remaining debts are discharged regardless of whether they have been paid in full. Chapter 13 is often very advantageous for debtors with assets they wish to keep or large amounts of non-dischargeable debt.
